Bringing hope by dancing in the streets of Grays

PEOPLE will be dancing in the street in Grays tomorrow (Friday, 10 September) to mark a special day for mental health.

The locally-based Reach Out for Mental Health organisation will be marking World Suicide Prevention Day by dancing in the street close to the Beehive Resource Centre

Kirsty Easton, Reach Out's director, explains: "It's not a totally bonkers idea, bear with me. I was at an event with Camerados in Hackney last week talking to the public about what we do when life is a bit pants (whilst wearing a pair of massively oversized pants, by the way).

"It was a bit of a challenge as generally people are a bit wary of talking to strangers (especially those wearing massive pants), suspicious of what they're trying to get from you or sell you.

"But then we started doing TikTok's in London Fields and people just... joined in. It was amazing. And then the conversation about what the hell we were doing and why we were there just naturally followed.

"The theme of this year's world suicide prevention day is creating hope through action and what better action for creating hope than dancing?

"So, consider this your official call to arms! We'd love to see as many of you in Grays High Street tomorrow between 12 and 2pm. You don't have to dance (but we'd love you to!), just come down and show your support."
