RESIDENTS, organisations and businesses in Stanford-le-Hope have been offered the chance to make a Remembrance tribute at the town's war memorial.

With no official ceremonies taking place this year because of Covid, the Stanford War Memorial Trust is planning to mark remembrance Sunday on 8 November by placing six A3 plaques, three either side of the entrance path with twelve poppy wreath images on them.

It will be similar to the display mounted at the memorial on the green for the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day.

In the centre of each the Trust says it will print either the names of the organisations that would normally lay a wreath and/or the names of those who wish to remember usually by the placing of a wooden memorial.

The Trust says: "We would use one of the plaques for a large wreath image with a Remembrance message from the community unless a wreath is laid on our behalf. There would therefore be space for sixty messages on the other plaques. We are happy to do this if the community so wishes. Please let us have your thoughts on this and we will progress it from there."

Anyone wishing to have their name displayed is asked to contact Trevor Robe from the Trust by email at [email protected] or by calling 07712 0333 75. The last day to register a name is next Saturday, 31 October. Names will be taken on a 'first come, first served' basis.
