THURROCK Nomads Running and Walking club completed an amazing Easter challenge to raise funds for a cancer charity and have smashed their fundraising target several times over.

Very recently one of the club's long standing and extremely popular club members 'Fergie', underwent medical investigations which unfortunately revealed prostate cancer and the cancer has also got into his bones.

Club member David Clarke who organised the event said: "We wanted to support Fergie on his long haul battle and do what we can to raise money and awareness for Prostate Cancer UK by putting ourselves through some discomfort alongside him and show how much he means to us and our club.

"Fergies treatment has just commenced and he is now receiving chemotherapy in tablet form - four a day. He's also had two hormone injections and has to have that every three months.

"Fergie's a bit concerned about this as he could develop some female physical characteristics like breasts! So, if you meet him and the voice has gone up a few octaves don't be alarmed...there are always reasons for optimism.

"Over Easter our challenge was to run or walk a minimum four miles every eight hours over 48 hours near popular Nomad routes with an Easter egg treasure hunt entwined. Clues were released one hour before every stage and eggs hidden at some of Fergie's popular spots - where runners got points. It was very successful.

"We have already raised £4,316.40, which with gift aid is increased to more than £5,000 but if people still want to contribute they can via this link.

"Please help us help Fergie fight cancer and raise money for Prostate Cancer UK by donating what you can however small - every £1 will help."
