AVELEY and Grays Athletic both enjoyed Bet Victor Isthmian Division One North wins today, but Tilbury's game at Brentwood against Glenn Tamplin's Romford was somewhat controversially called off.

Comment on social media from Dockers fans suggest more could have been done to get the game on, but with the contuinued high-profile reshaping of Romford's team under enigmatic Tamplin, the hosts were more than happy that the game was off.

Tilbury supporters who have seen the pitch say they can't understand why the referee called it off.

There was better news for Tilbury in another competition. They have been reinstated in the Essex Senior Cup after Braintree Town, who beatn them 2-1 in October, were found to have played an ineligible player.

Tilbury will now meet Bowers v Tilbury, a game which is expected to be played on 10 December subject to other rearranged fixtures.

The action today saw Aveley emerge comfortable 4-1 winners at Cambridge City.

Perry Dunn got them started with a first minute headed goal to mark his return to Milers for a third spell and George Sykes added a second on 13 minutes. The first half ended as it started with Jason Raad netting on 45 minutes for a 3-0 lead.

Substitute Shad Ngandu's 77th minute penalty after Sykes was brought down put the game beyond any doubt but Ryan Sharman did give City a last minute consolation.

A goal in each half was enough to give Grays a 2-0 home win against Hullbridge Sports.

Joao Carlos got the opener on 15 minutes and George Purcell completed the scoring eight minutes from time.
