Woman whose body was recovered in complex multi-service operation at Grays is named

SEVERAL months after a recovery operation on the side of the River Thames at Grays brought two bodies ashore, an inquest on one of the people has been opened.

On Thursday, 13 February Thurrock Nub News reported on the recovery operation at Wharf Road.

The woman whose body recovered in a complex operation involving police, firefighters and the ambulance service has now been named as 58-year-old Manijah Thomas from Grays.

An inquest into her death was opened and adjourned at Essex Coroner's Court yesterday (Thursday, 6 August).

Senior Coroner Caroline Beasley-Murray heard that the alert had initially been raised after concerns were expressed about her welfare and a search operation was launched. Her body was later spotted at the riverside.

Police confirmed her death was not treated as suspicious and that they believe there was no third party had been involved.

A postmortem examination was carried out at Basildon Hospital on February 24, where it found that she had died as a result of drowning.

The coroner adjourned the inquest to September 24, when a full hearing will be carried out.

The man whose body was Elvis Iliev, 28, who lived in Maidstone, Kent, Who had jumped from the QEII bridge five weeks prior to his body being discovered. An inquest into his death delivered an open verdict last month.
