RESIDENTS and motorists are remined that this weekend will bring another closure of the A13 to enable work on the widening project.

From 9pm on Friday, 25 September to a maximum of 5am on Monday, 28 September the A13 will be closed in both directions at the A128 junction (Orsett Cock roundabout) with diversions via the exit slip road, roundabout and entry slip road.

COUNCILLORS and residents in South Ockendon have called on Thurrock Council to take immediate action to improve road safety after a year seven student at the Harris Ockendon Academy was injured after being involved in a collision with a car outside the school this morning (Thursday, 24 September).

He was crossing the road on his bicycle at a point where visibility is restricted by cars parked as they drop students off and at a part of the road where councillors and residents have previously called on the council to install a pedestrian crossing.

CARERS, volunteers and supporters rallied round today (Thursday, 24 September) to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

And not even heavy gusts of wind could keep spirits down or the successful event going ahead. Initially a cake stall was set up outside the offices of Manorcourt Homecare on Whitehall Lane in Grays but the wind was so strong the event had to be moved inside.

TRIBUTE has been paid to the courage of a former and inspirational Thurrock headteacher who continues to battle cancer while helping others in the world of education.

James Howarth was a popular head at the Hathaway Academy in Grays until he was forced to leave his post to continue what had already been a lengthy battle against cancer – a voyage he shared with pupils and parents to help them learn about dealing with illness.
