POLICE have confirmed the death of a young man in a crash in South Okendon yesterday and have appealed for for witnesses. Two people have been arrested following the incident.

A 19-year-old man from South Ockendon died in the collision on Stifford Road in Saturday 10 April, shortly before 1.40pm.

The dead man was riding a black Honda motorbike and died at the scene.

Two people, a 29-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man, have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Both remain in custody.

A large number of floral tributes have been placed at the site, which has been visited by many of his friends.

Two were in attendance early this morning (Sunday) and spoke of a young man who was 'well-liked' by everybody. They said the former Ockendon Academy student would be 'missed by his loads and loads of friends'.

DS Steve Holmes, of the Essex Police serious collision incident unit, is leading the investigation and is appealing for information.

He said: "I particularly want to hear from anyone who either saw or took footage of a group of motorbikes, one black, one red and one yellow, being ridden by young men in the Aveley and South Ockendon areas in the lead up to the incident this afternoon."

Anyone with footage of the group, or who saw the group during the day, is asked to submit a report online here where you can use the 'Live Chat' button to speak to an online operator between 7am and 11pm. You can also call police on 101 and cite incident 553 of today, April 10.

Information can also be given to independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
