THURROCK'S latest recorded tally of people in the borough who have been infected by coronavirus now stands at 265 according Public Health England's latest figures.

Of those there is no specific localised death toll as yet, but at Basildon & Thurrock Hospital, where a majority of seriously-ill Thurrock people have been taken, the latest recorded number of deaths is 227.

Locally the death toll will be much higher as published figures do not include those who have died in care homes or at home.

Several care homes across the borough have reported they has suffered a number of losses but it will be some time before official figures are compiled.

Nationally, as the country entered its sixth week of lockdown, there have been 152,840 recorded cases and the number of coronavirus-related deaths in hospital is 21,092.
