STAFF at a borough store are proving real community champions as they support a range of local charities.

The Co-op store at Socketts Heath, Grays, has a real community spirit and regularly supports a number of local good causes.

Currently the store's donate as you shop scheme is supporting West Thurrock Girl Guides, Thurrock Play Network and the Friends of Treetops School. Each transaction by Co-op members means a small donation goes to the charities - which have been nominated by customers.

Over the year different charities are nominated.

In addition the store and staff support other causes with special events, the next being a cake bake sale next Tuesday (11 February) when staff will bake goods and sell them, with the proceeds going to Thurrock Mind.

"It's really rewarding to be able to help so many people while you are doing your job and our regular customers are really great and get behind us," said store charity pioneer Claire.
