Memorial bench error is corrected and original is now in place

THURROCK Council has apologised and replaced a memorial bench after erecting the wrong one in a public park.

Last month Thurrock Nub News reported on the relocation of a bench that local ward councillors had asked to be saved from the Mulberry Square garden at the side of the Civic offices in Grays, which is being built over as part of the controversial extensions to the building.

The bench was put in place at Kilverts Field in Grays, close to the Thames.

However, it now transpires that the bench council engineers installed was not the original one – but the mistake was spotted and now the correct one is in place.

Seabrooke Estate Residents Association chair Richard Suttling says: "We are grateful to eagle-eyed residents who spotted the mistake and to the council for acknowledging the error, apologising and putting the right bench in place."
