THE mum of a Thurrock boy who was hurt when in collision with a car as he attempted to cross the road to attend the Harris Ockendon Academy has spoken of her pride in her son and thanked the local community for caring for him.

Logan Taylor, 11, was injured outside the school where he is a Year seven pupil on Thursday morning (24 September). He was taken to Basildon & Thurrock Hospital but his injuries proved not to be serious and he is home.

Mum Jacqui, who is looked after by Logan because of her cerebral palsy which restricts movement, said: "My beautiful son - a young carer for me is the kindest, caring, politest boy.

"I am glad to say that he is just very stiff but his wish is a crossing to be put there so so no child ever gets hurt like he did or worse.

"If any of you do see Logan walking about in the community please do reassure him you are watching to keep him safe.

"He is very shook up so please help protect him.

"Thank you to all involved."

In the wake of Thursday's accident, which is not the first at that spot, called were renewed for a safe crossing to be installed.

Within 24 hours Thurrock Council had responded, altering its previous stance when it said it couldn't afford to carry out the work, to say a safer crossing will be put in place.
