Speed bump conundrum. Questions over planning and best use of taxpayers' cash as bumps laid down last month are dug up and not replaced

By Neil Speight 15th Feb 2021

WORK is coming to a close this evening (Monday, 15 February) on the resurfacing of London Road in Stanford-le-Hope which has been taking place for the past two days.

The work is being managed by local contractors Henderson and Taylor - who only a few weeks ago were digging up parts of the same stretch of road to install speed bumps.

Like the rest of the road surface those bumps were milled away over the past two days in preparation for the resurfacing - but they have not been reinstated. Thurrock Nub News has asked why that was not done as part of the current job?

We understand now that the plan is for Henderson and Taylor to return at some point in the future and reinstate them.

So there will be a third set of digging and road restrictions in the space of a few weeks, which apart from the cost has been at significant inconvenience to residents and road users - not to mention bus users who have seen stops suspended.

We have asked Thurrock Council why there does not appear to be a co-ordinated approach to its road safety work and what all this is costing taxpayers. We will report back on receipt of a response.
