St Luke's moving nearer to opening doors at borough's new hospice

THE opening day is drawing nearer for the new St Luke's Hospice in Thurrock – built in return for permission to build dozens of houses in the green belt.

The decision to allow the new housing estate off Lower Dunton Road near Horndon on the Hill was a highly controversial one but with many of Redrow Homes' executive houses now built and occupied, the public part of the bargain is to about to come to fruition.

Keys for the new building were handed over in February and though progress since has been slow, it has been steady.

Today (Tuesday, 24 August) the hospice told Thurrock Nub News: "The new hospice building on the site is currently being fitted out. Although we're not yet open to the public, some of our teams have started to move in while we complete the fit-out, add some finishing touches and wait for our Care Quality Commission registration."

The hospice has released some pictures of the new building and adds: "It's thanks to the generosity of our local community that we are able to continue caring for local people when they need us most.
