Take a look at Stanford's planned new rail station

THURROCK Council has now formally submitted, to its own planning committee, plans for the new Stanford-le-Hope rail station.

The long-running saga of the station has been a major embarrassment to the council and the cost of the project has not only soared - it is running years behind schedule.

However, if planning permission is granted, the council says it believes the station rebuild can be completed by the end of next year. The transportation hub on the other side of the road which will be made up of the existing car park and the Daybreak Windows site, which the council has bought, will take longer to complete.

Among the changes to previous plans is the creation of a retail area serving refreshments, which will be open from 5am to 10pm.

The application warns residents that construction work will not bring significant issues, though there might be some particularly noisy work occurring near Runnymede Court.

It also warns that construction activities scheduled to take place at night have the potential to result in significant adverse noise effects without additional mitigation.

The council says it can deliver the station within the current 'budget envelope' of £19 million.
