THURROCK Council chief executive Lyn Carpenter took to social media this evening to share her views on the impact of coronavirus.

She spoke out less than 24 hours before the council moved into trial mode of a scheme with many workers officially sanctioned to work from home tomorrow in a test of the council's emergency operational capability,

She posted: "The fact is that Covid-19 is a leveller. It does not discriminate. It will affect everyone either directly or indirectly regardless of who you are, what you do or what you think.

"Is now not the time to respond as one humanity, to work together, to forget why we thought we had differences, to remember why we need to collaborate, why we need to care for others?

"If not now, when? What will ever be enough to focus minds if not this disease?

" The time is now - the need is teamwork."
