RESIDENTS across Thurrock are reminded that the second week of phased brown bin collections starts tomorrow (Monday, 27 April).

As reported previously Thurrock Council is rotating the brown bin collections, for garden and kitchen waste, on a four weekly cycle across the borough.

The collections restarted last week in Stanford-le-Hope and Corringham and though some residents spoke of confusion about when the bins would be emptied, most areas have reported that by Friday the promised service had been delivered.

This week the collections will be in Chadwell St Mary, East Tilbury, Little Thurrock Rectory, Tilbury Riverside & Thurrock Park and Tilbury St Chads.

The council's environment portfolio holder Cllr Aaron Watkins says: "We ask residents to try to minimise garden waste at this time and compact what they have to dispose of as much as possible to ensure it will fit in the bin."

There has been no word from the council about when the civic tip at Linford will reopen. It was closed last month because the council said it was not able to guarantee social distancing at the site.

The decision has been somewhat contentious and following the death of two horses locally because people were dumping grass cuttings , and some instances or fly-tipping reported across the borough, the council has come in for some criticism.
