Thurrock stores lead way helping vulnerable and elderly and community volunteer force grows

By Neil Speight 16th Mar 2020

BUSINESSES in Thurrock are joining residents' groups and voluntary organisations in starting to set up ways to help older members of the community or those forced to self isolate because of coronavirus.

One of the first to implement positive measures to help is popular community shop Orsett Stores.

Last night (Sunday, 15 March) they announced the start of a free home delivery services for the elderly and vulnerable which is being helped by local volunteers, saying : "We will be starting home deliveries from Monday for those in our community most in need.

"The team in store will be taking orders over the phone and myself and some volunteers will be doing deliveries. Obviously we are super busy trying to make sure we remain fully stocked with all your usual items but we will try and get deliveries out as soon as possible.

"Please call us on 01375 891242."

And in Stanford-le-Hope the Planet Plume Vape Shop is also setting up free deliveries.

Owner Blair Lloyd-Warn says: "We have a surprisingly high number of older customers, partly because of our council-funded stop smoking scheme and we want to help them."
