All bunged up? John's the man to sort the problem out with competitive rates and a caring attitude
By Nub News Reporter 20th Feb 2026
A TILBURY-based business is not just offering cost-effective and quick solutions for blocked drains - it's leading on service to the community with reduced prices and discounts for the elderly and care homes.
Whether your blockage is indoors or outside, Bunged Up has the solution.
The company was set up by long term Tilbury resident John, who says community service is as important to him as making a profit.
Bunged Up operates across a large swathe of south Essex, including Thurrock and Basildon and uses the latest technology including high-pressure jets and cameras to track down problems, solve them and leave the site fully functional with any future possible problems highlighted.
At £140 an hour the company's rate is extremely competitive and 20 per cent discounts are offered for pensioners and care homes.
John says: "I know how much of a problem and a concern blocked drains and pipes can be to people and they are sometimes put off by the relatively high prices that can be charged - often by firms that use basic rodding rather than the high-powered kit we have.
"I've been asked to pick up a lot of jobs where people have been ripped off with poor and inappropriate workmanship and I can see how upset they are and the distress it causes.
"No one should be left in that state and they won't be with us.
"It's about building trust and I'm pleased to say that a lot of our business comes from word of mouth."
John's been in the unblocking trade for many years and before that worked in construction - so he's very familiar with all the problems he is likely to encounter.
"What we do is check out a job properly first, " he says.
"We use cameras to identify what's wrong and where the problem is. Then you can tackle it properly.
"We use jets of up to 4000psi to carry out the majority of the work effectively and quickly and leave every site having carried out preventative and diagnostic work to make sure the problem doesn't repeat.
"It's about safety, first and last.
"I like to do a proper job and I get frustrated and annoyed when I see people getting ripped off."
As well as offering discounts to those less able to pay, John says he loves working in the community and supporting local people.
"It gives me a very nice feeling" he said.
And on a wider scale of helping out, John's wife has suffered a long term renal-related illness and has received terrific support through Basildon Hospital and local care teams.
He is giving back by supporting the Kidney Research charity at both local and regional level, helping distribute and collection donation buckets and in the summer he will be taking part in a major fundraising event at Clacton.
