POPULAR Thurrock-based TipToe Stage School, currently has much to celebrate.

This month sees the school celebrating its 35th year in providing dance and theatre tuition to the local community via their branches in Ockendon and Romford.

And to further increase their celebrations, this week the team found out that they have been shortlisted as finalists in the National "Dance School of the Year" awards.

The event showcases organisations who "provide safe and trusted classes with qualified tuition - delivered with passion, enthusiasm and a commitment to make it as enjoyable as possible for all pupils, regardless of age, ability, race or gender".

Like everyone, the past year has been tough for the school, having seen classes paused due to the pandemic. But that didn't stop the team at TipToe – they created a new way of teaching, giving people the opportunity to take part in classes online.

Principal, Julie Barker said: "Everyone has been affected by the pandemic, and our priority was our pupil's well-being. So, my team looked at going above and beyond in making sure we could still deliver our classes.

"It hasn't been easy and it's important to recognise all of my teaching team for their hard work and commitment. A more trusted, positive and talented group of people you'd be hard pushed to meet.

"The fact that we've also been recognised by such industry peers is very humbling. Never, would I have dreamed, 35 years ago, that we'd be in the position we are and we have to acknowledge the wonderful pupils we have. From our toddlers to our Adult Tappers, all of them bring something special to the school and we cannot thank them enough for choosing TipToe.

"The award ceremony is being held at the end of October and we're hoping we can bring the trophy home for Thurrock!"

While all this is happening, the school are now firming up their next round of West End performances, they've been approached about performing again in Disneyland Paris and rehearsals are underway for their next show at the Towngate Theatre.
