FIGURES released today show that just one person in Thurrock has been reported as having contracted coronavirus in the previous 24 hours.

No new figures are available relating to the number of deaths in the borough and it may be some days before new details are issued - but it seems likely the last recorded number of 51 deaths in the borough, which hasn't changed on official records for a week will be higher.

Nationally, it is 100 days since the first confirmed case of coronavirus in the UK was recorded on 31 January.

Since then more than 30,000 people have died with the disease and thousands more have needed hospital treatment.

Latest figures show 215,260 have been infected with the Covid-19 virus - 3,896 up in the past day - and the death toll is up by 346 to 31,587.
