A THURROCK councillor has spoken of his delight as Britain left the EU yesterday – celebrating with some of the key figures he helped bring the change about with.
Jack Duffin won his seat in Stanford-le-Hope in 2016 for UKIP, later changing to be a founder member of the Independent Group and concentrate on local issues following the referendum victory by the leavers.
He was in London last night with some of the former UKIP top brass and members of the Brexit Party and today spoke of his pleasure at the outcome despite 'years of ridicule and abuse."
Cllr Duffin, who is to stand down from his council role in Stanford East and Corringham West ward in May, said: "Eight years ago I joined a campaign to bring sovereignty home to Westminster.
"I have met some of the closest friends I have, we shared blood, sweat and tears travelling across the country pushing our cause. I've been lucky enough to work alongside iconic figures such as Nigel Farage.
"Whatever change you want to make, however big or small it is, if you fight hard enough, you can win against all odds.
"I've put up with years of ridicule and abuse but it was certainly worth it in the end.
"Partying until gone 4am was certainly a good way to celebrate this historic day!"
