RESIDENTS in Purfleet have damned Thurrock Council for failing to empty bins, creating litter-strewn compounds that have become an attraction for vermin.

The problem has been mounting in the Caspian Way area where apartment owners have to use communal bin sites, but over recent weeks they have bemoaned a lack of collections.

Some residents have been forced to take their own rubbish to the bin, but others who have limited transport say they are being forced to live in shocking conditions.

One resident told Nub News: "Bins have been left uncollected for weeks. There are rats as big as cats everywhere. The council don't answer a phone and don't reply to emails.

"I am worried about the health of safety of children who play near the bins."

Another resident said: "This is disgusting. This cannot be allowed to carry on here."

Thurrock Council has been asked to comment.
