THURROCK's leading councillor for social care has delivered a message to residents in the borough that the local authority is ready, able and waiting to offer help to them if required, regardless of lockdown.

Cllr James Halden, who recently returned to a front bench role in Thurrock Council's cabinet after resigning his post after a disagreement with leader Cllr Rob Gledhill, has long been a passionate advocate for the council's social services says he is determined to ensure that anyone in need of help, gets it.

So much so he has called on anyone experiencing problems to contact him directly.

Cllr Halden, who represents Stanford-le-Hope's Homesteads ward, says: "I have had some people contact me via social media and the like to report issues and ask if the council is still able to offer support via social care during this Covid crisis.

"The answer is "yes"! However, it is vital issues get reported straight away to the right place so we can help. Often social media generates more noise than actual sound!

"If you see issues in the community around you, we have a well-qualified team here in the council who can investigate and asses need and put in place needed intervention. You should always contact us with concerns. We have worked hard to set up some "one stop shops" for you.

"Please reach out to us"

"There is no need to "build up" issues, thinking that we can only start looking at problems when lockdown ends or when issues get to a crisis. If you or a loved one feels they need to look at a care or support package, please reach out to us at the Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub for children and Thurrock First for adults.

"It is also vital we all keep accessing support for mental health, domestic abuse, grooming and so on. These are harms any of us can suffer from and will get worse without support – but our society is great at pulling together to offer everyone help.

"If you are in crisis, it's an emergency and there is a threat you could be hurt, please call 999.

"Our Inclusion Covid support line remains active for those who are at risk and struggling. Online support is available through the Inclusions website or by calling 01375 898680.

"Finally, if you have an experience of the care system you wish to share with me, please email me on [email protected]. We can always learn and we are eager to do so. Reforming social care is a constant duty and opportunity, and we can all play our part."
