THURROCK's current mayor has added to the tributes following the death on Monday (6 July) of one of his predecessors, Terry Piccolo.

The death of Stanford-le-Hope community stalwart Mr Piccolo was reported on Thurrock Nub News yesterday, together with a number of tributes.

Mr Piccolo, who is survived by his wife Jean, was Mayor of Thurrock from May 2019 until May 2021, the only person to ever serve two consecutive terms as Mayor of the borough because of the covid pandemic.

The flags at the council's Civic Offices have been lowered to half-mast, to mark his passing.

Cllr Bill Cook, the current Mayor of Thurrock, said: "It was with great sadness that we learned of former Mayor Piccolo's passing.

"Each Mayor of Thurrock plays a hugely important role in civic life and it is always a loss to our borough when a former Mayor leaves us.

"In addition to his mayoral responsibilities, Mayor Piccolo supported our communities through the uncharted waters of the Covid-19 pandemic, and was also one of the pioneers of our local community forums network.

"We are grateful for Mr Piccolo's service, and on behalf of the borough I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the Piccolo family, and their friends."
