PLANS have been put before Thurrock Council for a development of 750 homes in the green belt close to the village of Orsett.

The scheme is for the development of the airfield near the village owned by controversial businessman Terry Holding.

The scrap metal and salvage company operator has a colourful record of involvement in local affairs, most notably when he flew an aeroplane over the region carrying banners criticisng his opponents.

In December 2008 he won a much-contested planning application to create a concrete runway on the airfield he owns close to the A128 and now the same site is up before the planners again - this time for a massive development.

An application has been submitted to the council for an Environmental Impact Assessment on plans to create a mixed-use development comprising 750 residential dwellings, a medical facility, retail and commercial units on the airfield.

Details of the application can be found via the red information button below.
