A celebration of achievements of borough youth

By Neil Speight   13th Jan 2023

A CELEBRATION evening was held at the Seabrooke Community House in Grays to commemorate the achievements of young people from Thurrock who undertook the Respect Project, culminating in an expedition to the Lake District.

Keith Cranmer, from the Essex Boys and Girls Clubs, led the presentation, and was supported by local volunteers Anita Donovan and Gavin Lee. Cllr Martin Kerin presented the awards.

Speaking afterwards, Anita said: "I have been volunteering now for 16 years, and love every minute of it. To see how the young people leave their comfort zone and bond as a team is so fulfilling.

"We have youth clubs running at the Seabrook Community House which are open to all - please get in touch with us for more details"

Cllr Kerin said: "It is an honour to be able to present these awards to the young people of Thurrock. To hear their stories of their time in the Lake District was a privilege. The work of the participating agencies deserve a special mention: Gateway Academy, Ormiston Park Academy, Gable Hall School, Essex Boys & Girls Clubs and the Seabrooke Community House.

"It was also fantastic to be able to talk to the volunteers who make these experiences possible. Well done to Anita Donovan and Gavin Lee for their time and commitment to the young people of Thurrock."
