TRAFFIC on the westbound A13 on the approach to the Orsett Cock roundabout and the Tilbury Docks approach road was close to standstill this evening due to a crash on the carriageway.

Adjacent roads were also very congested.

The A13 temporary was closed to all westbound traffic just west of Orsett Cock interchange, owing to the accident.

A statement from Essex Fiore and Rescue said: "We were called to a road traffic collision on A13 Orsett Cock A128 to Dock Approach Rd A1089 Westbound at 4.44pm.

"On arrival crews confirmed it was a collision involving one car and one HGV. One person was medically trapped. Firefighters worked to rescue the casualty and left them in the care of the Ambulance Service by 5.48pm. "

An ambulance service spokesperson said: ""We were called just before 4.45pm yesterday [Wednesday 24 June] to a road traffic collision on the A13 near Orsett. We sent two ambulances, an ambulance officer vehicle and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance. One patient was transported by road to Basildon University Hospital for further assessment and treatment."
