Accident backs up traffic in east of borough. Two trapped people released by fire crews

AN accident on the A13 between Stanford-le-Hope and Pitsea this afternoon (Tuesday, 13 May) brought adjacent roads to a standstill.

The A13 was closed in both directions by the mid afternoon incident which was attended by emergency services including the air ambulance.

A statement from Essex Fire and Rescue said: "At 3:13pm today (Tuesday 13 May), crews were called to a road traffic collision on the A13 eastbound between the Five Bells and Pitsea flyover junctions.

"Four vehicles were involved and two people were trapped in their vehicles. Crews worked to release the people and make the scene safe

"The casualties were left in the care of the Ambulance Service at 4.45pm."
