AN accident close to the entrance to the Port of Tilbury which happened late this morning ( Tuesday, 22 June) continues to cause traffic congestion, trailing back to the A1089 Dock Approach Road.

There is limited access to the adjacent area, including the ASDA superstore.

The incident happened just after 11am when two HGV vehicles, one a tipper and the other a container carrier, collided.

They suffered extensive damage and a fuel leak has caused additional problems, meaning the road is having to be resurfaced.

There has been limited traffic in and out the docks all day with many workers unable to leave or get to work.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area if possible.
