FIREFIGHTERS were called to a fire in an industrial building in Purfleet this afternoon (Monday, 18 December).

On arrival, crews reported an industrial building which uses material bags to filter dust from aggregate had set alight.

Firefighters from Grays, Orsett, Brentwood were supported by London Fire Brigade to surround the building and isolate the fire, using the aerial ladder patform (ALP) to flood compartments at the top of the building with water.

Watch Manager Dave Hogan said: "Crews have done an excellent job to get the fire under control quickly and stop it from spreading further throughout the building.

"This building, which is known as a baghouse gets very hot when in use which is how we believe the fire may have started. We will remain on scene for a few more hours to monitor and dampen down any hotspots."
