ALMOST a year after the death of much-loved landlady Margaret Orman, it has been revealed that one of Thurrock's most popular pubs will be getting a new licensee.

Brewers Greene King have announced that the tenancy of the Whitmore Arms in Orsett is now available.

Margaret, who passed away on 9 April after contracting Covid-19 and husband Jim took over the pub in 1994 and together with with daughter Victoria and son Jamie built it up to win a host of hospitality industry awards.

The incoming tenant will pay an initial amount of £57,375 and the annual rent is £70,000. Figures released by the brewery show it makes a profit of approaching £70,000 a year on a forecast turnover of £842,000.

Victoria said: "Rest assured as we move into this transitional period, we have the best interests of The Whitmore, our amazing team and our customers at heart. I'm sure someone will get it and keep it as a well run pub."
