WOULD-be burglars have forced the closure for a day of a popular Grays fish and chip shop.

They struck last night, trying to force entry into the Little Chippy on the Broadway.

Apologising for the temporary closure the angry shop owners said: "To the filthy scum who tried to break into our business last night: one question for you ... WHY?

"Was it worth all that effort and damage just for a few pies and chips?

"Thank you for leaving the pickaxe as a memento so thanks, the police forensics will be on that."
