IT was a busy weekend for guests of Thurrock branch of the Re-engage charity, their volunteers and supporters and local businesses who have rallied to help the charity that provides a lifeline for elderly, vulnerable and local people across the borough community.

On Sunday (13 September) guests of Re-engage Thurrock were treated to delicious afternoon teas by Asda at Tilbury and The Fleet Pub and Restaurant in Purfleet.

Group co-ordinator Paula Mullooly offered thanks to Asda, a regular support of the charity, saying: "Thank you so much to Asda Tilbury's Community Champion Kim Morgan and her mum, Sandra for another fabulous tea party.

"Our groups T6 and T7 enjoyed delicious food, great company and lots of laughter. We also celebrated three birthdays this month (Betty and Vera T6, Doreen T7). Thank you Asda Tilbury for your continued support of Re-engage Thurrock. We are so very grateful.

"Thanks also to all the volunteer drivers and helpers who supported our guests today and helping them in doing some shopping before the tea party too."

Regional co-ordinator Loraine Coleman reported on the event at the Fleet, saying: "What a lovely tea party Thurrock 5 had at The Fleet this afternoon!

"A very big thank you to Dermot, the lovely Barbara and all the wonderful team at the Fleet for treating us all to a delicious afternoon tea. It was absolutely lovely!

Dermot and his staff have been hosting free tea parties for all Re-engage Thurrock groups for many years now and we continue to appreciate their kindness and generosity

"We had a hilarious game of bingo, with one of our lovely volunteers taking on the very important role of bingo caller!

"We celebrated Kath's birthday and to end the afternoon, our very talented volunteer Richard treated us to a wonderful trio of beautiful ballads.

"The afternoon was filled with laughter, fun and friendship — everything our Re-engage tea parties are all about. We missed you Paul, Carol, Jean, Marion and Janet and hope to see you very soon."

Loraine also echoed her colleague Paula's appreciation of the team at Asda Tilbury, adding: "A very big thank you to the lovely Kim, Sandra and Asda.

"We are so very appreciative of Kim, who gives up her own time on Sunday afternoon to host a tea party each month for all 10 of our Re-engage Thurrock tea party groups. Your kindness and generosity mean so much to us.

"Also, a special thank you to our very special volunteers. Without them these wonderful events would not happen."
