As work continues on expansion, port boss tells of employment opportunities now - and in the future
MORE than 60 vacancies have been highlighted at Thurrock's London Gateway Port which is on the cusp of expansion as work continues on its latest docking facility.
Work on the fourth berth at the port at Corringham is underway and when it is completed next year it will bring around 250 new jobs.
However, the port is currently looking for local people to fulfil a wide range of vacancies, as Andrew Bowen, who has been the port's operations director for 10 years, said: "I would urge anyone interested in a career with a fast-growing local company which is part of a global organisation that makes a real difference every day to people's lives to get in touch with DP World.
"We have more than 60 vacancies which need to be filled, including control room managers, rail superintendents and welders, and this could be the opportunity which you've been waiting for to get into the logistics industry and take responsibility for moving essential goods into and out of the UK.
"Our new £350 million berth, which will lift our capacity by a third when it is completed next summer, is now well under construction.
