POLICE responding to reports on an unattended backpack left on the QEII bridge just after midday prompted a closure of the crossing that caused significant delays during the early afternoon.

In the end the crossing was reopened without incident.

Statement from Ken police said: ""Shortly before midday on Tuesday, 19 October Kent Police received concerns about an unaccompanied backpack which had been located near the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge.

"Officers seized the bag and no suspicious circumstances have been identified.

"A road closure was enforced as a precaution and has since been lifted."
