IN the latest stage of its resurgance as a leisure venue, Coalhouse Fort will become and open air cinema this weekend.

And it will be something of a full circle as parts of the movie on show were filmed at the historic military venue

'Fort Film Night' on Saturday (26 September) will feature the Christopher Nolan epic, Batman Begins, featuring the caped crusader amid a star-studded cast.

Batman Begins is the story of Bruce Wayne, who, after the death of his parents, travels the world fighting injustice and evil forces that prey on the weak.

Wayne returns to the legendary Gotham City where he unleashes his alter ego: Batman, a masked crusader who uses strength, intellect and high-tech weaponry to fight the sinister forces that threaten the city.

The star-studded cast includes Christian Bale (Batman), Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Rutger Hauer, Katie Holmes, Cillian Murphy and Gary Oldman.

Coalhouse Fort has a special connection with the film as in 2005, the opening prison scenes were filmed within its walls. Film-goers can see some of the original Warner Brothers props on display before the screening.

The film will be screened on the Fort Parade Ground. Gates open at 7.45pm and the film starts at 8:15pm.

Visitors are encouraged to wrap up warmly and bring their own chairs, cushions, blankets/extra layers. The café will be closed so picnics are encouraged. Parking on-site is free.
