Orsett firefighter Ben Whateley-Harris is getting behind Orchid Male Cancer Support by taking on as many events, competitions and races as possible.

Ben will complete a range of challenges during the remainder of 2019, following various half marathons and 10 kilometre races.

Last month, Ben took on the Winter Chase in Rye, East Sussex: a six hour endurance race in which participants aim to complete as many 4.4 mile laps as possible within the allotted time.

He managed to complete an incredible eight laps... 35.2 miles!

Finishing second out of all participants, Ben said: "The race was about more than just running the distance, but getting to various checkpoints in the wind and rain, with sea spray also affecting conditions.

"But overall, it wasn't bad for a bloke who isn't built like a runner!"

Last weekend, Ben took on another challenge at Bath University: a two day team fitness competition called Strength in Depth.

And he's not done there, either! This Saturday (7 December), Ben will complete a marathon row, ahead of the 'Essex 20 miler', Epping Forest 10 mile trail race and finally an over 35s multi-fitness and weightlifting competition in Colchester - all before Christmas.

Ben is looking to raise as much as possible for such an incredible cause, you can support him using his JustGiving page: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ben-whateley-harris1
