BIN collections in Thurrock have now been suspended until after the weekend as the council's waste service has been monitoring weather updates which are forecast to stay below freezing.

Conditions are not expected to improve sufficiently to allow safe working conditions until after the weekend.

The council, which suspended collections on Tuesday is asking any residents who currently have bins outside their homes to take them back in.

It is planned that collections will resume as normal on Monday but because of the amount of waste - residents will be permitted up to two bags of side waste - some of the rounds may take longer than scheduled and could overrun to the following day.

A spokesperson for the council said: "We apologise for any inconvenience."
