MYSTERY surrounds a huge flash of blue light that lit up the night skies to the south west of the borough this evening as the tail of Storm Isha ripped through with high winds lashing the area.

Hundreds of people have commented on social media channels about the flash that happened at 9.23 this evening.

It was witnessed and captured on camera by Chadwell St Mary resident Wayne Elliott who was watching the storm from his bedroom window.

"It was very bright. There was no noise. I've never seen anything like it" he said.

A power failure has been flagged up in the East London area, which some residents suggest could mean there was an explasion of flare up on a power cable or pylon.

Emergency services have been asked if they have any knowledge what happened.
