THURROCK Labour party has gifted a borough-based charity £500 to help local families over Christmas.

The cheque was handed over by Labour group chair Carl Morris and received by Steve Stuart, founder and chairman of the Friends of Essex and London Homeless (FOELH).

Mr Morris said: "Many Thurrock families struggling with the cost of living crisis, rely on the FOELH.

"They really are unsung local heroes. The support they provide is crucial to growing numbers of local people and families.

"Hopefully our donation will help."
