Boost for community trust that is helping people find work

STAFF and volunteers at One Community Development Trust in Tilbury have received a £2,000 donation from the local Amazon fulfilment centre.

One Community Development Trust runs a number of initiatives to support community wellbeing. The charity aims to boost prosperity across Southern Thurrock by helping individuals find and sustain paid employment. The charity also focuses on creating a sustainable community environment by working with local organisations to promote the use of public spaces and facilities across Tilbury.

In addition to the donation, Amazon in Tilbury has partnered with One Community Development Trust to launch a programme that helps its members return to work and find new and rewarding roles at the Amazon.

The donation and has helped to transform the shop front of the charity's community centre on Busy Dock Road in Tilbury. Young people from the Gateway Academy, along with local artist, John Bulley, also designed artwork for the front of the building, creating better visibility for the charity within the community.

The young people involved were later awarded certificates by representatives from both One Community and Amazon in Tilbury for their contribution to the project.

Sertac Yilmaz, General Manager at Amazon in Tilbury, said: "It's great that we can support One Community Development Trust with this donation. It is a fantastic charity that play an important role in the local community. Our team thoroughly enjoyed the visit to the charity, where they learned about the support provided by the staff and volunteers to the people of Tilbury."

Marcia-Fay Grace Johnson, Trustee of One Community Development Trust, added: "We are over the moon to receive the donation from the local Amazon team. It was wonderful to have some of the team visit us and learn about the work we do within our community. On behalf of our staff, volunteers, and beneficiaries, I would like to thank Sertac and his team for this support."

The donation forms part of the 'Amazon in the Community' programme through which the company supports the communities around its operating locations across the UK.
