THURROCK Council has launched a consultation as it seeks a plan for the upkeep of the borough's cemeteries.

The consultation will help guide a review of cemetery regulations and the creation of an up-to-date cemeteries strategy.

Cllr Andrew Jefferies, Cabinet member for Environment and Air Quality, said: "We want to make sure that our cemeteries remain as peaceful and respectful sanctuaries where families and friends can visit the final resting places of loved ones but at the same time are accessible by the whole community.

"This consultation will help us ensure that the views of residents, and especially cemetery users, are fully taken into account as we protect these important places for the future."

The consultation runs for six weeks until 3 August. It is available to view and complete online at: consult.thurrock.gov.uk/cemetery-consultation.
