A STANFORD-le-Hope schoolgirl has smashed her fundraising target for Macmillan Cancer Support after having a head shave.

Mia Chohan from Orsett attends St Clere's School and wanted to do something to battle cancer after a couple of people in her friends and family circle were struck down by the disease.

So she decided to take part in the cancer charity's 'Brave The Shave event', with an initial target of £300. She quickly passed that is now closing in on a landmark £1,000 of donations.

If you would like to help her reach that, you can donate here.

Mia, whose 21 inches of hair were cut off and donated to make wigs for sick people also had her head shaved.

She says: "Thank you all so much for all the lovely donations, it means a lot!

"I've done this for everyone out there who has this deadly illness, including friends and family members."
