Builders on rural estate want to work weekends to catch up as Covid takes toll. Plus Thurrock Council planning applications submitted in the past week

BUILDERS of what was a controversial new rural housing estate in the east of the borough have applied to Thurrock Council to extend the permitted working hours of contractors in the site through the winter because of Covid-19.

The site at Little Malgraves Farm, close to Horndon on the Hill, which includes provision of a new building for St Luke's Hospice, was granted despite strenuous local opposition and a significant number of the new homes have already been built.

However, its developers want the council to change planning conditions, allowing workers to be on site during Saturday afternoons and Sundays.

They say the changes are necessary because of urgent changes to construction working hours to support safe construction in line with the government's guidance on construction and other outdoor work.

TREES close to a small housing development in Purfleet-on-Thames are to be curt down to size because of their poor health.
