A BUSY Thurrock link Road was closed in the early hours of today (Sunday, 16 August) as water cascaded from a burst main, lifting the tarmac.

The incident happened on Stifford Hill, which links South Ockendon with Grays and North Stifford.

Local bus services have been closed as a result.

Engineers from Essex & Suffolk water at at the site, but a time has not yet been set when the road will reopen.

A spokesperson for Essex & Suffolk Water said: "Our teams attended Stifford Hill, in South Ockendon, in the early hours after a burst water main caused flooding on the road and lifted part of the carriageway. To ensure the repair can be carried out safely, a full road closure is in place.

"Our repair team is on site and is currently carrying out the repair. There is no impact to customer water supplies. We are sorry for the inconvenience and want to reassure residents and road users that our teams will remain on site to complete the repair and reopen the road as soon as possible."
