WORKERS from UK Power Networks have been working on repairs to streetlights on the approach to Stanford-le-Hope rail station today (Tuesday, 13 April prompting the closure of the road in both directions.

The unannounced work on London Road began at 8am, causing considerable traffic congestion on adjacent side roads which were used as a diversion.

A traffic management team appeared at 7am this morning and put up signs saying the road was to to close and signposted a diversion which will take traffic off the busy road through an adjacent residential estate.

The traffic crew said they were unsure what the work was for but it was being undertaken by National Power who had 'emergency repairs' to make to the road close to the petrol station and the junction with Kingsman Road.

Traffic diversion signage in both directions directed traffic around the closure via Runnymede and Ruskin Road, Prospect Avenue and Butts Lane, which are likely to become extremely congested if work starts around the same time children are arriving at nearby St Clere's School.
