FESTIVE events have been coming thick and fast for guests and volunteers who support the Thurrock branch of the Re-engage charity – which offers comfort, support and friendship to the area's lonely, vulnerable and elderly.
An afternoon tea at Langdon Hills Golf Club was organised by group co-ordinator Paula Mullooly, who said: "What a fabulous Christmassy afternoon for our guests. A big thank you to Pam at Langdon Hills and Joy, Joy and Alan from the Chadwell Branch of Royal British Legion.
"A delicious afternoon tea with loads of chat and laughter. Congratulations to all the raffle winners.

"As always, we couldn't organise these events without the support of our volunteers who look after and care for our guests. Thank you so much."
The thanks were echoed by regional co-ordinator Loraine Coleman who added: "Thank you so, so much to Langdon Hills and the RBL. Your generosity and kindness mean so much to us. The photos say it all — wonderful food, and so much happiness.

"And a special thank you to Paula for organising it all. As always, these wonderful afternoons wouldn't be possible without the dedication of our fabulous volunteers. Thank you all so much for everything you do."
Another seasonal event saw volunteer drivers take guests from across the borough to the Christmas Carol Service at St Clements Church in West Thurrock.

Loraine said: "What a truly magical evening in a beautiful church steeped in history. We were given such a warm and lovely welcome, sang our hearts out, and shared in the true spirit of Christmas together.
"It was a wonderful evening from start to finish — topped off with very tasty refreshments too!"
And a third event came courtesy of members of the Rotary Club of the Mardyke Valley who treated Re-Engage guests and volunteers to a fish and chip lunch.

Loraine once more expressed thanks to all concerned and added: "It was such a lovely festive afternoon, with so many happy faces enjoying time with friends. Our guests even had a wonderful sing-song, which was a joy to hear.
"A very big Re-engage Thurrock thank you to all. What a fabulous Christmassy event — thank you to the Rotary Club for your kindness and generosity and to Mick for organising it.
"Also a huge thank you to all our volunteer drivers for driving and looking after our guests. These wonderful, special treats simply couldn't happen without your support.
"Wishing everyone a Very Happy Christmas."
