A CALL has gone out to borough football fans to help one of the area's top teams settle into its new home.

Following the green light for a long-running planning application, Grays Athletic FC is making plans for its takeover of the derelict stadium formerly occupied by Thurrock FC at Ship Lane, Aveley.

The fan-owned organisation is now in the process of finalising legal documents regarding the transfer of land to the football club, and is inviting supporters to register their interest to volunteer with the refurbishment of the ground.

Board director Rob Seaman says: "We are delighted to be able to move to the next stage of our plans for the refurbishment of our new home.

"Having visited the site recently, there is alot of work to be done, but I know that we can all pull together and bring Ship Lane back to life.

"We are delighted to be able to invite all supporters to register their interest in refurbishing the ground.

"Once we have collated a volunteers list we will be in a position to start planning working party dates and a schedule of works to be done.

"I would encourage anyone who would like to help with the refurbishment to register and join us on the journey.

"If you have a specific skill or trade that you feel might be helpful with the refurbishment please let us know when applying to refurbish the ground."

To register your interest in helping to refurbish Ship Lane please contact Rob Seaman either by emailing to:

[email protected] or via TXT/WhatsApp to 07740 46 42 38

Please include your name, number, and contact details and any trades or skills that may be useful with the refurbishment.
