THERE has been significant disruption this morning (Monday, 7 November) as members of the JustStopOil campaign group defied a new injunction granted to National Highways on Saturday (5 November) and stopped traffic by climbing gantries around the M25.

Essex Police are dealing with an incursion at Junction 30 in West Thurrock.

A statement from Essex Police says: "We are currently responding to reports of people climbing up on an overhead gantry close to Junction 30 of the #M25.

"Officers are on the scene and working to keep disruption to a minimum to keep Essex moving this morning.

Police hold traffic at Junction 30.

"Arrests have already been made by our officers at a number of locations.

"The operational team in charge of this response have acted quickly and ask the public not to intervene.

"These arrests have formed part of a nationwide operational response to protest activity."

On Saturday Nub News reported on the new injunction. It appears this morning'a action around the M25 is a deliverate ploy by the eco-campaigners to highlight their cause, desp[ite new penalties put in place if they are arrested.

It appears there was some advance notice of the action as the Met Police said it had launched a "significant" operation to identify and arrest the climate change protesters and made some arrests over the weekend but they were unable to stop all this morning's action at some points, though some police were in place in advance and made arrests to foil incursions.

A statement from JustStopOil says: "This is not a one day event, expect us every day and anywhere. This is an act of resistance against a criminal government and their genocidal death project. Our supporters will be returning – today, tomorrow and the next day – and the next day after that – and every day until our demand is met: no new oil and gas in the UK.

"We will not be intimidated by changes to the law, we will not be stopped by private injunctions sought to silence peaceful people. Our supporters understand that these are irrelevant when set against mass starvation, slaughter, the loss of our rights, freedoms and communities."

The campaign group says it forewarned the Met Police about what was going to happen and advised thy implement a 30mph speed limit.
