A LORRY transporting cement has overturned on a busy junction in Aveley, causing a major diesel spillage and causing significant Friday (7 August) rush hour congestion.

The accident happened at the roundabout junction of Sandy Lane and Romford Road.

The vehicle left the road, damaging the pavement and spilling fuel on the road. Local residents have taken to social media to say the road is in a very dangerous condition.

Police, ambulance crews and a recovery vehicle were quickly in attendance.

A Thurrock Council highways team has been despatched to help with the clean-up operation and help with road cordoning to keep the area safe.

It is understood some of the diesel has spilled into the adjacent Kenningtons Park but it is not yet clear how much environmental damage has been done.
